Last Sunday we hiked all the way up Penang Hill. Mummy, Eu Choon and I. This might be no biggie for any of you. But it is for me. It's definitely one big biggie. And I was all smiles when I reached the top. :D
I've been an asthmatic since I can remember. Hiking was usually a nightmare for me. I used to have to take a couple of puffs from my inhaler every fifteen minutes or so and I usually never made it to anywhere we planned to reach. But these few months, I've become a regular hiker. Both Mum and I.
In school, my teachers were always kept informed about my asthma background (we were always asked about our health during our first Physical Exercise class every year). I hated to be "singled out" and be known as the "weaker one". And so I always opted to be involved in all activities be it runs, push-ups or games. I longed to be like everyone else. If I started wheezing in between our "five-rounds-run-around-the-school-building", I would stop, hide in one of the corridors where no one would see me, take a couple of puffs from my inhaler, and carry on. I was one kiasu kid. :P I felt embarrassed to be seen with an inhaler in my hand. And I don't understand this but I still am. :)
And so, being able to climb all the way up the hill was a real biggie for me. It truly was. My prayer since only-God-knows-when was finally answered. And I have been reassured once again that God is real. He listens. And even though at times it seems like He will never answer my prayers, I know that some day, when the time is right, He will answer them.
I can now say that I too have hiked all the way up Penang Hill. :D
